In-box look at the new Airfix 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire MkI/MkIIa (A02010) kit.
Image

It comes in the standard Airfix boxing, bigger than its cousin the Spitfire Ia.

This is because the boxing comes with an additional sprue to make the original two bladed spitfire with flat canopy and the later MkII.

Sprues A and B are identical to the A1071A  Spitfire release. Sprue D supplying the alternative bits.
The glass sprue C of the original has been replaced by a new sprue with two canopies attached.

A welcome return to colour painting instructions and well printed decals to make either a 19 Sqn Spitfire MkI or a 118 Sqn Spitfire Mk IIa

Doesn't matter now. I went to my LMS to check if they had it, and they didn't, but they DID have a 70% sale on, where i picked up the old 1/48 version of this kit for an amazing £4.50!!!

While I concur that this is a nice boxing and some very useful additions to the MkIa-kit, There is some parts on the new sprue that is puzzling me. The parts in question is the new oil cooler-parts (parts nr. 41-42), which has a round, protruding intake rather than the d-shaped one in the original kit. Neither this nor the fish-tail exhausts are noted to be used in the instructions.

I guess this means that the kit will appear in yet another incarnation, but what spitfires used the round oil-cooler, and did any of the early marks use the fish-tails?

Ole

The parts you refer to Ole would be substituted and used if you were making a MKVa spitfire.
