That cockpit's looking pretty good, not sure if i'm brave enough for some scratch building on mine!
Have you found a good way at all to deal with the sink marks on the round portholes?

Hi Rosco
You could try using this tubing, I purchased it at my LHS here in Auckland

Cut 1mm or so pieces and it wil help with the portholes, and give you the correct diameter for the transparencies of the portholes also

no worries Alan I managed to get them in okay in the end and not too terribly fussed on accuracy

Looking good Rosco. For the sink holes in the centre of the windows, you could try putting some ClearFix in them, but though that would help flatten them out, I think you'd still be able to see the distortion in the plastic.

bought some clearfix and had a go.. its annoyingly thick and stringy but got the hang of it - put on a blob with a piece of sprue and broke off the stretchy leftover bit by swiping a needle through it near the window.  Didn't really work too well though, half of them had some air bubbles appear when drying

needed to do something a bit easier after all that..

and... found one of these in stock at the hobby shop  :D

Hiya Rosco
looks like you have a fine local hobby shop! As for clear fix, apologies, but yes, it can do that and isn't the easiest stuff to work with. However, if you search on clearfix on the site, I'm sure you'll find plenty of helpful tips on how to work with it. Essentially it seems to be a case of a little at a time where possible. A cocktail stick is often the recomended tool. Also note that you don't want any excess - it can peel away underneath paint work if you have any need to sand it.

Cheers for the tips James..

..did some more research and it looks like Microscale Kristal Klear might be a another good alternative.. a bit too late now on this model so i'll be sure to try it out on the next one.

Some good progress today..
portholes masked using a 5mm hole punch and Tamiya tape - the openings are just under 6mm so this will hopefully leave a frame painted in..

with the clearvac canopies I really don't want to use the kit's basic interior, so time to teach myself some scratch building!.. (I did cheat a little though I used some aftermarket detail kit pictures on the web as a template)

Great work there pal. Personally I find Micro Krystal Clear is better for making windows and filling sink holes than Klear fix. It's much easier to work with too. Klear fix sticks them in better though. :)

looking really good there :thumb:  (think my Sunderland will have to have a dirty canopy in need of a VERY good wash with these interiors being made on the GB   :?  )

Finished the cockpit, not going to bother with the rear section since it won't be very visible once all put together. Used Tamiya masking tape for some seatbelts and made a couple of buckles using a tiny drill and 1mm holepunch on some thin plastic sheet (then pushed them flat)..  A dashboard will go on once the two halfs are glued together.
