A Typhoon has been ordered from King Kit, £2.99, not bad. Should be here sometime next week hopefully.

Cheers

Typhoon arrived yesterday from Kingkit (along with a 1/48 Airfix Me109 :) ) so I am already to go.

It is an old Type 10H box (using Steven's list) and the decals seem to be in register, so will not have to bother with after market set.

Cheers

Stu

PS here is a link to Steven's box/header type list, I still haven't mastered attaching the link to the text yet :?

You press the Bold Button, so you get a [ b] (to make the link stand out), then press the URL button so you get a [url]. You then paste in the link inside the Url tags like this:

[ b][url=link]

You then add a word to describe the link

[ b][url=link]Steven's Box Header Codes

and then press the *url and *b buttons

You should then have something that looks like this:

Steven's Box Header Codes

HTH Stu! :D

Does indeed help Owen :D , many thanks for that, I had been playing about with the URL button but never quite got it right, your instructions are clear and concise so even a twit like me should be able to do it  I will try it out at the first opportunity :D

Cheers

Here we go again!! :D

Image

This is the kit I have, it will be built straight from the box with the only possible change being the Pilot figure if I can find a better replacement in the spares box.

The decals seem fine but only give one option in this boxing

Image

I have cracked on quite well tonight, with so few parts in the kit hopefully it will not take too long to get together (I have a few other builds on the go that sorely need to be finished).

Anyway, the wings are together and undercarriage covers are in place in the stowed position, most other parts have been cleaned up, there were some hefty lumps of plastic on the nose around the propellor blades that required careful trimming.

Probably will not get anything done tomorrow as I am off to a family bash to celebrate my Father and Uncles Birthdays  , will probably not be up for much on Sunday either :drunk:

Cheers

Stu

Cracked on with this one last night, despite my determination to build this out of the box I am sorry to report that I found myself adding a control panel and gun sight to the cockpit.

It was all a bit of a waste of time because none of it can be seen when the canopy is in place and the lens of the gun sight would not allow the over thick canopy to fit in place correctly so it had to be removed.

I painted all of the cockpit area matt black and gave it a light dry brushing of medium grey. The seat was also painted medium grey and I added a head rest/pad to it.

The tail wheel was added in the retracted position, this required a little bit of trimming on either side of the fuselage.

A better pilot figure was dug out of the spares box, moulded in dark blue plastic I guess that he must have baled out of a Kingfisher or Dauntless many years ago  . He will be painted tonight.

The fuselage halves were joined together and much sanding ensued. Thankfully there is enough space to drop the pilot into the cockpit after this has been done.

Wings and tail planes have been added and filler applied around the wing roots, this will be sanded tonight.

Will post some pictures later

Cheers

Stu

Here is an update including some pictures of earlier progress

Image
Here are the wing sections with under carriage doors in place and after a fair bit of sanding

Image

The pilot figure rescued from the sea somewhere around Midway and now drafted into the RAF. The seat has had an head rest added probably incorrectly

Image

The fuselage halves, the modifications to the rear wheel bay cannot really be seen in this picture. The instrument panel has been added, the piece of plastic rod is to help brace it.

Image

Image

All major elements are together and filler applied to the wing roots, cockpit and seat have been painted.

Image

The wing root areas have been sanded down, leading edge and tail band have had their preliminary paint jobs and the camouflage scheme has been roughly pencilled onto the surface.

Image

Here is the ex US Navy pilot in his shiny new RAF uniform

Image

And happy in his new home

Since the last picture was taken I have masked the canopy and cut out where I think the framing should be, there is no indication on the kit part :? must admit I may have made a bit of a bodge of this. The wing leading edge and tail band have also been masked in preparation for the main paint job and the prop spinner has been painted.

More later

Cheers

Stu

Final update:

The canopy was attached and a little filler required around the join. Painting of the main colours was then carried out, each getting around 3 coats, once again the Humbrol colours, both grey shades, refused to dry to a matt finish, I eventually just left the lids off of the tins for a couple of hours, gave them another stir and finally got a matt coat out of them. The dark green was a Revell colour and dried matt first time.

Image

Image

The pictures above show the kit with all masking removed other than that on the canopy

I made the tail band a little too wide (and also a bit wonky :? ) the leading edge masking seemed to work quite well.

Once the camouflage colours were dry small deatils like the navigation and landing lights were painted and then the aircraft was given a couple of coats of Klear and decalling began.

Image

Image

Although the decals are in register they are not particularly good, I am sure that the squadron codes should be lighter and the yellow outer circle on the fuselage roundels has all but disapeared :?

Image

This was my first attempt at using roundels with the seperate inner red area, I must confess that I was a little nervous at the prospect. In the end it wasn't as bad as I had thought, I simply gave the initial decal a coat of klear and then applied the central 'dot' onto that once dry. This seemed to work fine and allowed for jiggling the 'dot' around without damage to the base decal.

When all decals had been applied I gave the aircraft another couple of coats of klear and then a few coats of Testors dulcote. The masking on the canopy was then removed to reveal my dodgy version of the canopy framing

Here is the finished job, £2.99 well spent me thinks

Very nice Stu, and rattled off at a fair old pace too! I dunno, even when I think I'm building quite quickly, everyone still finishes before me :(
