It appears that people are not always checking and reading their Private Messages. I, personally, have had many PM's remaining in my Sent Box because addressees are not reading them.

It is quite understandable that people will miss PMs if on holiday but on many occasions the addressees have been online many times since the PMs were originally sent. In such cases, I have had to send emails instead and then delete the PM's. Other forum members have also been experiencing the same problems.

It's easy enough to check your Private Messages. Just click on the "You have 1 private message" link at the top of the page. You can also set your profile so that you either receive an email notification, a pop-up window or both. Note, that both of these can fail sometimes so don't rely on them completely.

If there are messages in my sent file, does that mean the recipient has not read them
Should I not have deleted them

That is correct, Ratch. They only leave the "Sent" folder and move to the "Delivered" folder when the recipient reads the message. Therefore, you do NOT delete them whilst they are in the "Sent" folder!
