I think it important that I make an announcement concerning the subject of private contact between the adult and junior members of ATF and the disclosure of addresses.  Now, this is going to happen a lot, especially when members want to send parts to each other or buy and sell kits.  However, we must be careful about younger members giving out their email and home addresses to adults whom they only know via this forum.  The safety of the younger members is paramount and due to the nature of the Internet, we have to make sure we keep them safe by taking some simple precautions.

Before any minor gives out their address to anybody, they should get a parent to contact whoever wants the address, to agree to the address being given.  This has to be done for the first contact with each and every adult member. Whether subsequent transactions with the same individual require this action to be repeated, is for the parent to decide. The person wanting the address should satisfy themselves that the person contacting them (if by email) is indeed a parent.  Should the email not seem genuine then either demand that the parent send a written letter (not email) or else pull out of any proposed  transaction.

Obviously, it is impossible for me to get involved in these transactions and I am relying on the good sense of all members to do the right thing to ensure the safety of the younger ones.

Thank you

Dave
