The build...

Sections 1 and 2 deal with the assembly of the sponsons - oh my god, look at all those tiny wheels. Nailbiting

At least airfix provide a couple of extra ones should I manage to lose one....

There is a lot of flash on my kit and tidying up the wheels is proving hugely tedious. I don't like wheels on AFVs at the best of times.

So, to break the tedium, crack on with section 3 - hull construction, leaving the wheels and sponson assembly until later.
OK, so the fit of the hull base to sides isn't perfect, but so far this is going together alright, and we now look like this...

Note our wonderful festive tablecloth still in situ

- that'll have to go...

Note also that I managed to remember (but only just) to fit the ramp before sticking both hull sides solidly - now that would have been embarrassing

Managed to avert another minor disaster. I have all the wheels (so as to try and avoid losing them) stuck on a piece of masking tape - which Mrs Hippo mistook for some rubbish left over after taking down the christmas decorations. 22 wheels almost ended up in the bin...

Note to self - don't try modelling when someone else is tidying up.

Reaching the halfway mark for this GB...

Progress report.

a) tablecloth's gone

b) all wheels now deflashed - if anything the sprockets were more troublesome than the rollers

c) filler applied to various hull seams
d) discovered flimsiness of hinges for ramp

ramp no longer attached to hull

Repair job needed.

e) molded handrails have been replaced with fine fusewire

More piccies later - hopefully.

It strikes me that (in the true Airfix tradition of moving parts) it should be possible to assemble this such that the sprockets and all the rollers may revolve.

Fiddly? Yes. Childish - moi?
