Personally, this is the my least favourite kit to build out of the lot, I might bite the bullet and build my Italeri M4. |
But not for the group build though, because kits can be Airfix only... _________________ Cheers,

Which is just as well because yesterday I went out and bought another LVT and I am going to do the pair of them in a ''Crossing The Rhine'' dio, also these are the worst Airfix Kits I ahve ever built, they are very crude, covered in flash and the new Airfix decals are very, very, very glossy.
How old are these kits? _________________ I'd rather push a Dodge than drive a Champ

OK folks, as pointed out by Luke there is not long to go to D-Day so here is a reminder of what this build is all about. The subject of amphibious warfare encompasses a very large spectrum of military equipment and personnel, for the purpose of this build we will be concentrating on military vehicles used for or adapted to the purpose of carrying out amphibious operations.
The Boss has very kindly agreed to the inclusion of the landing craft kits in this build so we will therefore leave warships, aircraft and infantrymen to their respective group build sections as I do not wish push my luck any further or indeed to tread on any ones toes .
There is of course no reason why ideas for amphibious warfare builds cannot be put forward in other group build sections where, I am sure, the group build gurus will encourage suggestions for builds along the same lines.
So, back to this build, in the initial discussion the kits put forward as subjects for this were as follows:
Airfix Buffalo
Airfix LCM III
Airfix LCVP
Conversion based on an Airfix kit
I put the above forward with my WW2 head on, there are of course a couple of Post War vehicles with amphibious capabilities namely the Scorpion and Sheridan both have been kitted by Airfix so I can see no problem with them being included.
There is also the DUKW, the 1/76th scale kit is generally available as part of the Operation Overlord box set and the Airfix boxing of the Italeri 1/35th scale DUKW kit could also be built.
The revised list is therefore as follows:
Airfix Buffalo
Airfix LCM III
Airfix LCVP
Conversion based on an Airfix kit (this would be something like a Sherman converted to Duplex Drive configuration, BAVR or perhaps a conversion to one of the landing craft as suggested earlier by Brews)
Airfix DUKW (1/76)
Airfix boxing of Italeri DUKW (1/35)
Airfix Scorpion
Airfix Sheridan
Sorry forgot to add them
Kick off is 00:01, 15th December 2007, I am looking forward to seeing some interesting subjects cropping up, will anyone attempt the Sherman Duplex Drive conversion?
Personally I will be building an LCM III as used by the US Naval Combat Demolition Unit. This will be LCM no. 5 or 6 which took part in the initial assault wave on Dog Red Sector of Omaha Beach and will involve a little bit of conversion work.
Cheers

At the halfway point and one home run already made, well done Digs by the looks of things Adrian/Farmroad38 is also not far off of finishing, seems that I need to extract a finger or I will be getting a bad name
Some great builds coming along, keep it up chaps
Cheers

Yes, both of me are very close to the end. Totally unheard of - I must find some reason to delay putting on the mattcote until after the deadline is passed... _________________ Cheers,
