This item was bought from e-bay, and (as described) Bond has been assembled but not painted, and the rotor blades have been painted on the sprues. The box is end-opening box (with the Flying Hours removed) and the mid-grey mouldings are loose in the box. The mouldings are virtually flash free, with a reasonable level of detail. Assembly instructions are in 17 stages. Paint call-outs are given for two Wallis WA-116 Autogyros, Bond’s ‘Little Nellie’ and an Army trials version, Middle Wallop, 1963. The decals are perfectly in register.

The first thing of note is that none of the components carry part numbers, either on themselves or the sprues. I started by repainting the parts painted by the previous owner, correcting the colours. I also decided to paint James Bond in Tamiya acrylics.

I have Barbarella's notes on building this thing, Richard.

He said that the pilot "fitted where it touched, which wasn't in many places. I've cut my pilot off the sprues, and test-fitted him, and I don't see the problem. How did you fare?

Edit: Nevermind. I just glued mine together - no problem

Do you think you could scratch-build this in 1:72?

IIRC this kit is 1/12 scale, is that right Ratch?

Assembly went pretty well last night

Image

Building this in the Army version will result in a tail-sitter, with nowhere to add any ballast    :(

Image

The weight of the fairing counterbalances the tail  :)

Image

Like Brews, I'd say the attitude of the machine guns is less than perfect  :(

Image

There is still some way to go with this (although construction work is almost complete)  :)   The seams on both launchers and fairing require smoothing and the paintwork will have to be re-touched  8-)  Although the paintwork is gloss, I shall still Gloss Cote, apply the decals and Gloss Cote again  8-)  The windshield has already been dipped in Klear, and will be secured with ClearFix  :thumb:  Hopefully, then, we will have the finished thing  :P

If you were making the army version, I think you could probably put weight into the pilot's legs (but you'd have to use the head of, say, a Harrier  pilot).

Alternatively, you could glue it to a base!

Thanks chaps  :D
I noticed yesterday that the top half of the fuel tank should be painted yellow  :fear:
Stage 2 of the Assembly Instructions clearly state that for the Bond version it should be painted Hu: 11 Metallic Siver Fox, and the Army version should be Hu: 163 Satin Dark Green  :|  On the final paint/decal guide the top half should be Hu: 69 Gloss Yellow, then a decal (of stripes) with the bottom in Hu: 11 Metallic Siver Fox    The problem is that at this stage it is impossible to get between the myriad of framing etc    It would have been better for stage 2 to depict the required colouring in full

Anyway, it's now been Gloss Coted in preparation for the decals
