My offering will be a Rapide flown by the Falck RedingsKorps (Danish Fire and Ambulance Group) as an air ambulance. Overall Gloss red with codes in white.

With others offering sprue shots I 'll refrain. However just to confirm I am building an Airfix issue a shot of the box top.

As previously stated I'll be doing a Rapide operated by Falck as an air ambulance. I have not yet been able to ascertain if this aircraft was fitted to carry a stretcher patient. Some years ago I picked up a Rapide from Upgrade a Kiwi firm. This kit offers an ambulace version which suggests rescribing an extension to the door to accomodate access for a stretcher. Studying photos of the Falck Rapide this extension is not apparent. So a little what iffery may be required on the interior.

A start.

Have assembled the main interior components and painted the cockpit area Hu78 with HU33 for the seat base and the controls.

Still working out how what the interior of the main cabin will look like. Considering a frame for two stretchers with two seats for attendants. Main cabin colour will be light grey (Hu64) up to the level of the windows then cream above that including the roof.

Also started prepainting some of the exterior Hu19. Should have really base coated with Hu64 or Hu34.

Most ambulance versions did have extra doors, both internally and externally.

The additional external door On ambulance version was like a 'stable door' the window aft window above blanked over and converted to a swing panel, to give better access.

The stretcher was normally on starboard side with seats 7&8 left in situ. The compartment between the luggage compartment was a double door. It was a straight  floor to ceiling bulkhead in 72 scale, not a stepped as in the Heller kit.

If you can give me the airframe number, I may able to find out some particulars on the aircraft.

Thanks for the offer, the Aircraft was cn 6775 built for the RAF as NR676 later became G-AIWY before being bought by FALCK in 1947 when it became OY-AAO.
I understand about the split rear doors on Military Ambulance Aircraft. The notes and diagrams with the UPGRADE relase of the Heller kit offers some external deatls on the doors and also the seat layout. From what is visible on photos of this aircraft as OY-AAO it did not have a split door. However I am assuming that it may have been modified to carry stretcher patients with out the split door.

Cheers

I really need the airframe number which almost certainly will be prefixed 62 to be certain of finding something about the machine. But, I will have a go with what you have given.

Found a little about the machine you are making:

Originally and RAF machine NR676 from June 1944, stationed at Kemble, sold back to DH in April 1946 registered and re-registered as  G-AIWY. Sold overseas, registered in Denmark and registered O-AAO in June 1947 to Falcks. Subsequently registered to Peer Perch in 1961 and to Danfly in 1961. COA Lapsed in Nov 1963 and donated to a childrens playground in 1966. Salavaged by the Royal Danish Aeroclub in 1968 and placed in storage were it is belived to be now.

I have a picture of this machine taken in March 1966 it was in a sorry state then with most of the covering coming away. There was no window aft of the door and door looks to be a standard Rapide door.  The AF loop was a bullet fairing [like the AA machine] which was an unsual feature for a Rapide.

Hope that helps.

I can find no mention if it was configured as an ambulance from the outset.

Thank you for taking the time and effort. The machine was restored and I think is in the Technical Museum in Helsingor. The photo's of it shows a standard door and they put curtains over the cabin windows so no detail there. Thank you again for the effort. I'm opting for two stretcher patients with seats for two attendants.

A bit more of an update. I repainted the exterior with a white wash to lift the red as it was alittle dull. I'm prepainting the exterior as I'll be using DecaDRY for the lettering and its is easier to to apply the rub down transfers before construction.

On the interior the "The Society of Friends of The Falck Museum" have kindly supplied addtional information plus photo's which indicate that the aircraft was fitted to carry two patients on strechers and three sitting passengers. The aircraft had the standard door.

My build has stalled somewhat.   For the scheme of the Falke Air Ambulance I will be doing  I need to write in white lettering, the height is just under 2mm. After considering many options and being unable to locate any 2mm lettering from DecaDry or other decal suppliers I have decided to print the decals by using the negative method. IE you get a white decal sheet, print the rest in red leaving the lettering in white. I am now waiting on my LMS to get in some decal sheets in white for laser printer.
