I need to make an Apollo Flag and Flagpole in 1/6th scale and was wondering what and how the original was made?
What diameter tubing (or whatever) should I use?
Thanks,
Ted.

I know it was made of a special lightweight aluminium alloy, so you could use aluminium tubing.
I don't know the sizes though.

Very interesting article about what you would expect to be a relatively mundane subject. :)

Bizarre to read that the flag and plaque were only mounted just prior to launch.
Interestingly I don't recall ever seeing the protective canister on any model of the LM.

The kits were based on the practice & development  LEMs. It wouldn't be possible to measure up the LEM after the mission.
Thats also the reason why the kits dont have the gold foil on the lower part of the LEM.

:D Indeed ! I couldnt agree more. A fascinating insight, I had always wondered about the flag tho. I think in future we will be seeing more than just the Stars and Stripes tho ! LOL. Paul.

In case anyone has wondered, the above is a direct quote from an Irish MP who was stunned to find out that the Irish Air Corps had no jets.
