Hey there,
I'm an old-school modeler who started in the 70's. After about 20yrs of very slow build rates - a kit every few years - two years ago I decided to significantly ramp-up 'production' and I now model most days and I'm really enjoying the 'return' to the hobby.

My interests are as varied as the hobby - cars, trucks, planes, boats, military, figures, sci-fi - haven't done a train yet, but it's only a matter of time. I'm currently going through a 'plane' phase with 4x builds on the bench.
I mostly do 1/72, with some 1/76 armour thrown in, but just recently I've done a pair of 1/144 bombers and they were fun little builds so I'd like to do more of those.

Since my 'return' to the hobby I've found I quite like building older kits. Initially it was a 'nostalgia thing' but then I realised I quite enjoy the challenges the older kits provide. I've always liked a bit of scratch-building and the older kits provide an opportunity to enjoy that. I'm not too hung-up on accuracy - if I feel like fixing a kit's flaw I will, but if not, then I won't. And that's what brings me to this forum. I've been on a couple of other forums where the general theme seemed to be 'new = good & old = rubbish' and then I noticed that often when googling the kits I was building it was the ATF that I was visiting for inspiration. So, I thought I'd stop lurking and start hanging around officially.

While I do like Airfix kits a lot, I also enjoy kits from Matchbox, Frog, KP, Hawk etc so I like the fact the forum has some non-Airfix areas as well.

I'll start by adding a Portfolio of some of my recent Airfix builds - hmmm adding photos. Wish me luck. :)

Cheers,
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, welcome to the ATF. Nice to see another person who likes old kits for the same reasons as I do. There are more of this species around here! I look forward to see some of your work.

All the best, Huib

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

I used to visit the ATF via google search results - which is a bit like parachuting into a location that you have no map for. Coming in through the 'front door' and finding my way around is taking a while, but I'm getting there. I hope I bump into you all somewhere on the site.
