I was looking at some high resolution pictures of the studio miniatures, the large one uses a 1/24th scale figure as the pilot. I started to identify the kit bashed parts that cover the model and I realised I had a large number of these in my spares box. I was able to obtain some good profile shots of the studio model and from these I drew up the dimensions of a studio scale Y-Wing. The core is made from 5mm perspex sheet. The engine pods are Airfix Saturn Vs first stages cut down. I had to get various diameters of rod for the tubing and 'I' and 'T' section beams. The cockpit module is shaped with Isopon car body filler, around a perspex core. For the pilot I modified a 24th scale Harrier pilot. Its not 100% true to the filming miniature, but reasonably close enought.

Fantastic! That looks better than some of the Lucasfilm original models!!!  The Y-wing was always my favourite Rebel Alliance Starfighter. Shame the X-wing glory boys got all the credit...
