This is the Mercury Redstone rocket from Dragon. The capsule is “Liberty Bell 7” as flown by Gus Grissom. Nice crisp model from Dragon but it could benefit from additional details. All I added were four strips of red decals on the heat shield of the capsule. The capsule sank during recovery but it was raised in 1999.

Very nicely done. I don't think I'd fit in a Mercury capsule. Not comfortably, anyway, and definitely not in a spacesuit!

beautifully done; mine has sat unfinished for over a year, because I got frustrated with the escape tower, the lousy instructions and my own mistakes: I am also annoyed that they provided the wrong decals for Liberty Bell; It is actually a mostly well designed kit.

Thanks gents. Yes the rocket is MR-4 from what I have found out. There is not a huge amount of detailed photographic evidence even on the Nasa sites from what I can see.

Such a great build! It reminds me of the "Right Stuff", a great movie too. :thumb:

Actually the mission was MR-4 but the rocket was MR-8. Confused? I was...

MR-7 was Al Shepard's rocket (though his mission was MR-3!) but the capsule is wrong for his flight as he didn't have the big square window. The capsule was originally designed with two little portholes but the astronauts objected and it was changed - but too late to incorporate into Shepard's Freedom 7 capsule.

Poor research by Dragon, for the price they charge I would have expected better decals.
