I've started buying some Commando comic libraries again over the last few years, partly for nostalgic reasons, partly because the artwork (particularly the fine covers by Ian Kennedy) often fires the imagination and inspires future model-making.

It's a pleasant surprise to see that, not only have they managed to keep going, they've just managed to reach their 5,000th edition.

My congratulations to the Commando team and here's hoping for 5,000 more!

Think that cover's maybe a wee bit unrealistic, the He 70's main advantage in the Spanish Civil War was it's speed.

If it was caught by fighters like that, a couple of bullets was enough to turn it into an inferno because of magnesium in it's construction & the lack of self sealing tanks.

I used to purchased them with stories related to RAF bombers.
The artwork, in most cases, was pretty good but some issues were really not drawn to the usual high spec.

I dont see them around so much these days probably because I dont go shopping in newsagent but they were certainly a thing from my youth.

Congrats to the team for reaching their 5000 edition.

I'm really surprised to see they're still going --- brings back memories of back in the 60's when I used to buy them

£2 now, I think the last one I bought was 12p (probably had a few pre-decimal as well).

Highly recommended!
I got back into them because they've done some great ones connected with the WW1 commemoration etc
As for fanciful covers, as my Nan always said 'Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!' :thumb:
