I plan to build my Severn Class Lifeboat, I've been looking forward to it for a while now.

Time for a photo of the box. I'll be putting this RNLI lifeboat together as the Portrush lifeboat "Katie Hannan", a famous vessel in this part of the world which was sadly withdrawn from service in 2008 after sustaining unrepairable damage during a rescue attempt in a violent sea.

Just making a start on this now. The sprue looks impressive (and a bit scary).

Some progress today: I stuck the stands together and started on the main hull pieces. Some guys had problems with the fit of the hull sides and underside, I've not had any difficulties. Perhaps I was helped by the photos of "Katie Hannon" out of the water after her damage. I've only used blu tack to stick the upper and lower sections to test fit. Bow is glued at the leading edge and the rear of the boat is glued to the underside.

As you can see there is an obvious step in the fit from the underside and upper pieces, this is accurate and should be present all around. by leaving this step all around (particularly ensuring it is present at the stern) the fit is perfect.

Ratch,

Life sort of took over for a while. I hope to get some done on this in the next day or so. Hull is now primed and I will be painting tonight.

Back to this one. I had tried to brush paint this onto grey primer using Humbrol acrylics. The finish and density I ended up with was just not satisfactory at all. I didn't have an airbrush back then and didn't really know what I was doing with the paints! Here are pictures with the paint rubbed down a bit to try to get it presentable.

I used Fairy Powerspray to strip the paint to the plastic, rubbed the surface smooth and started again. This time I have layered up three thin coats of Humbrol 34 enamel as the base, rubbing down after each one.

Nice Biblical reference for my benefit there Ratch ! Indeed this one well and truly needed brought back from the dead. It's amazing how much I've learned since 2009 about painting.

Here's the lower hull after two airbrushed coats of Humbrol gloss red. I'm pleased with the finish. Much of the masking has been removed but I'm going to leave this for a while to fully harden before I mask off for the blue.
