Not seen this topic so thought I would ask the question.
Somewhere on the A1 southbound about newark, there used to be an old scrap English Electric Lightning. I had thought about modelling it but when I last looked it had disappeared. The aircraft was well stripped of anything useful years ago and I just wondered when, why and by whom it was finally disposed of. Was the price of scrap aluminium finally to big to resist?
I do remember it sitting there back in the 1980s but did not venture up that far on the A1 again till around 2005 when by then it appeared to have been heavily vandalised.
And finally, does anyone know when it first appeared at the roadside? It always reminded me of the Cadillac cars at the cadillac Ranch on Route 66 USA.
Cheers, JT

:) Thanks for that, shame though, I kind of liked looking at it when passing. As a car passenger I once woke up 200 yards before it, just a bit to late to take a picture.
I will now be looking for the Cardington Airship sheds if I ever head up the A6, I do know they are still there.

I used to feel sorry for the fireman stuck up the ladder. It was like he was expecting the lightning to burst into flames lol.

Went along the A1 many a time, but cannot recall seeing it, (probably too busy keeping an eye on the road).

The nose section was saved and is being worķed on and will one day look as good as it used to so one day in the future it may win cockpit fest at newark wink wink.
