Whilst slightly off-topic, the discussion about penetrating power of the .303 is interesting. Many moons ago I was the gunnery officer of a T42 Destroyer and one of my Petty Officer gunnery instructors set up a demonstration on the firing range to prove to our junior sailors why if we ever had an armed intruder on board that you should not assume that you could take cover behind a watertight door. His father was a butcher and he brought in a pig's head which he mounted on a spike at the end of the range. In front of it he placed a sheet of sheet steel (I think about 5mm thick, slightly thicker than the steel used in the doors). He then proceeded from 25 yards to put a series of 10 rounds of 5.56mm from an L85A1 straight through the plate and into the pig's head. it certainly focussed the mind!

Using the 62 Grain SS109 bullet, 5.56 x 45mm NATO ball can penetrate 3mm of steel at 600m.
