So many posts in non-airfix military aircraft demonstrate the simple good foundations of the UK FROG and Matchbox kits that I'd like to see them culled out into sub-category...even if it is an Airfix Tribute.  Those too show how the Island Kingdom contributed so much to the broad range of sconstant scale modeling.

We did look at the galleries before, but with phpbb2 there are a limited number of splits into sub-foums and sections which can be made and there are so many other kit manufacturers....

Once we have phpbb3 running and have worked with it for a bit I'm sure the admin and mod team will be looking at how we can implement its features to improve the running of the forum.

Sorry, but it's not going to happen for three reasons.

First, in the new version we are stuck with the sub-forum system we have at the moment.

Second, for each manufacturer we give a special gallery section that means 9 additional forum. So, even if we added only 2 manufacturers that is 18 extra forum. Then no doubt other people will make a claim for their favourite manufacturers to get their own gallery section as well.

Thirdly, and most importantly, it is the Airfix Tribute Forum after all and the main focus is on Airfix kits and has been for almost seven years. And it's not as if other manufacturer's models have been excluded from being shown on here. In fact, we have been rather accommodating of other manufacturers in the circumstances.

As it happens, on the new system you can list the Picture Gallery posts according to subject title. Not perfect but at least using our naming standards it is an easy way to browse by manufacturer and see all of one manufacturer's kits in one place within each type of subject gallery.

Dave

Might be found a silly question and it's NOT an attempt at overloading hard-working mods but:
Would it be possible to rename the KP - Kopro - KP/Kopro threads? or make a notice on thread naming standards?
It would slightly limit the number of threads in the forum as well as giving better hits when using the search function.

As with the FROG/NOVO/Frogski threads its actually two different names for the identical plastic though in this regard also the same compagny under two names and with changing product no's!
At least some members have tried covering both names in the thread name i.e. KP/Kopro

Still its a minor nuisance but it would help KP/Kopro kit builders when putting their finished model into the right Gallery in the appropriate thread.

I've done a run through of the Non-Airfix Aircraft Pics Military/-Civil which shows these kits being named under the three abovementioned thread names with differing product codes of course.

Those identical kits showing up in different threads are:
KP La7 (No6) and KP La7 (06)
KP Yak 23 (J72031) and KP/Kopro Yak 23 (J72031) as well as KP Yak-23 (18) in the -Civil gallery
KP MB 200 (21) - Kopro MB 200 (21) and Kopro (021)
KP MiG 15 (J72041) and KP MiG 15 (12)
KP L 39 (KPC-001) and KP L 39 (J72021)

Those showing in one thread are:
KP Po 2 (3171)
KP Su 25 (J72091)
KP MiG 17PF (J72061)
KP MiG 19 (4)
Kopro Spitfire Mk IXc (3172)
KP Su 7 (J72101)
KP Mil Mi 4 (H72011)
KP C-2 (P72152)
KP MiG 15UTI (13)
KP B35 (P72171/8)
KP Piper Cub (72131)
KP MiG 17PF (7)
KP B33 (3)
KP/Kopro A 100 (3155)
KP/Kopro MiG 21PF (3107)
KP D1 (29)
KP G-12/CS-199 (P72141)
KP C-3A (9)
KP L 29 (J72011)
KP Mi8/Mi17 (KP3162)
KP S16 (P72091)
KP Letov 328 (72111)
KP S 231* (no product code; would be according to KP Models homepage P72101)
Kopro Spitfire F VIII (F-05)
Kopro Su 22 (4128)
Kopro Spitfire Mk XVIe (3161)
Kopro Siebel Si 204A (3157)
KP B 534 (J72021)
KP B 21 (P72161)
KP BH 3 (22)
KP La 5FN (24)
Kopro Spitfire Mk VII (3173)

Current product codes can be found at KP Models homepage (till they change codes or manufacturer name  )

Hi Carsten, if you provide links we can merge the threads that are duplicated
As for the naming of manufacturers, were all Frog kits re-issued by Novo (and likewise other manufacturers) We're not all experts here and need indicators as to the best way to do things :help: It would be of assistance if folks would make a post in the threads that need changing with the changes that need to be made

I am currently adding the aircraft manufacturer where the posters have omitted them. I for one don't know who made an F-55 (and F-55 doesn't work in our search function, but Grumman for example will)

When I first joined this forum I didn't see the wisdom of the founding fathers in organizing the forum the way it is. But, with time, I came to appreciate the greatness of the original idea. If KP is KOPRO, etc. then a gentle nudge will awaken the slumbering giant and lead to mergers.

Being described as the founding father makes me sound (and feel) rather old! :santa:

We do try to intercept those posts where people use a wrong or truncated name for a manufacturer and merge where appropriate. It might be a good idea to have a non-Airfix model manufacturer directory listing as a sticky in the various non-Airfix picture galleries. This listing could show the "approved name" with the variations in brackets after the name.

As sure as eggs are eggs, I am sure that some people will still "do their own thing" - as some always do. That is not a good enough reason to not create the directory listing though!

Dave

They don't ring a bell and I spent six months a few moons ago merging and updating the threads/topics in non-airfix galleries :fear:

I don't think many of those KP/Kopro kits have threads yet.
I think we should just continue as in the past; if one comes across a duplicated thread then one should just PM an admin and suggest the merger. :smt024:
Far less work for the mods; they don't have to go hunting for threads that may not exist, just respond to PMs suggesting the changes.
Chase, Goose, wild, words come to mind,

To answer your question: no. German subjects (or at least WW2 German subjects -- I don't know about post-war subjects) did not go to Russia; they ended up going to Revell (hence you get Revell/FROG Do 335, Ta-152, etc.).

There are other exceptions too; for instance, I'm not aware of a Novo F-104 Starfighter -- but then I don't think FROG ever had the moulds for those, I imagine that Hasegawa kept them in Japan. Presumably other shared moulds were likewise kept with Hasegawa (although in the case of the Harrier, apparently FROG had their own copy of those moulds, which did go to Novo).

There's probably not much in the way of hard-and-fast rules. You'd need an explicit list, I think. I don't know if anyone has ever done one.
