Many moons ago I started building one of these and it ended up being in the stalled pile because of a missing part. That part being the gearbox and drive shaft to the rear axle. I could see the locating hole in part 2 (the floor) and in part 20 (the rear axle). Just today decided alright the part must be missing so I'll just finish the model without it. Studying the instructions realised that part did not get a mention and looking at the part number sequence it would appear the part never existed. So a question can any one remember if there ever was a gearbox and drive shaft component? And yes it does pay to study the instructions before starting

I made two of these about ten years ago and neither of them had a driveshaft:

Just checked mine it's the same. I do remember vaguely wondering the same thing when I built it. Be interesting if it was a rejected part or if the design of the mould required it for some reason.

It may have been a late realisation that they hadn't moulded the underpan quite right (or needed to add another part to cover the prop-shaft/drive-shaft once it was in place), because it actually runs in a tunnel. In 1:1 scale this makes removal/replacement a tad difficult - until the series where Jaguar engineers built in a little trapdoor, to let you get at the front end. Airfix probably decided this was a step (hole?) too far ...
