Doesn't look a lot different, but it's had two coats of Vallejo Model Air Yellow applied.

Letting it cure before trying to mask it.

Whats that Vallejo primer like Rich?

I've always used good old Halfords grey out of the can which apart from being a bit grainy if you don't shake it up enough has always done a pretty good job for me for enamels.

The Vallejo looks good in your photos, I wonder if its time to try it?

Vallejo primer I find is very good, it is self leveling and dries to a very smooth finish. The only drawback is it takes a few days to fully cure, if you try sanding it before then (e.g on filler added to a seam you noticed after priming) then it chips and won't feather in. Leave it a few days and it sands OK. It also doesn't seem to like some plastic or mold release agent - it didn't get on at all with my new tool Airfix Mustang, even after washing all the sprues in soapy water, on the Vampire it went on smooth as silk with no prep  . It also comes in a handy variety of colours, although I've only used the white and grey.

Yellow panels masked off with a mixture of Tamiya tape and clingfilm ready for the silver to be applied.

Masking removed.

Just a minor bit of touching up to do before I apply Alclad Aqua Gloss.

Gloss coating at the moment so nothing much to show. I did unmask the canopies and paint the windscreen wiper though.

No progress, just a masterclass in how to screw up a gloss coat :hithead: :angryfire: .

Slightly off beam, but anybody that is building or thinking of building this kit should be aware that John Adams has some very nice white metal seats that look a real treat once installed. They are cast as a pair so you can drop them in as one unit. I snapped up a set, but thinking about it should have probably got three or four.

Some minor progress, the anti-glare panel painted on and the nose gear and wheels attached, plus the engine outlet slotted into place. Also painted the interior of the main wheel wells. Next step declas.

Decals on. They are absolutely superb, nicely in register, colour dense and go on without a hitch. The pre-cut decals included for the gear doors are a really nice touch and the placement guide is excellent :clapping: .

I'd like to know what compelled the paint scheme designers to paint the serial numbers across the landing gear doors on so many aircraft types. Didn't they realise how difficult it would make our lives? Actually, it must have made it hard enough for the real life painters too.

Finished up the oob build by adding the canopy and drop tanks and glueing the undercarriage doors in place. Canopy fits superbly.

Image

I'm going to add the ejection handles and pose the canopy open and add a couple of boom antennae which are present on the preserved Vampire and paint the wing tip lights and then it should be finished. (Although I'm very unhappy with the gloss varnish and I may strip it all back and re-do it in the alternative markings.)
