Useful warning, thanks. When I used to build 1/7x tanks, this was always a problem, and the only solution that worked for holding the sprockets in place was to use a length of brass rod right through the model.

I am wondering if casting up a few spare track links is the answer, i.e insert them into the track run, to slacken everything off a bit?

How uncanny, I recently bought this model from 'The War & Peace' show this summer and recently started making it at the same time you have - although I haven't got so far as you.

I bought it because I remember making it back in 1975 when it was first released and I remember what struck me about the kit was the amount of detail it had. Not quite so sure about the detail now though, manufacturers have got better but still a good kit.

I was tempted to do a bit of scratch building for the canvas and cloth things since they look so fake but I don't think I will have the time.

Do you do any research on the model before making it? I wasn't sure about what colours to paint the dials on the radio set myself...

It's great watching how you progress :-)

I also bought this kit when it first came out and like you I was also struck by the "detail". My research was mainly Googling and I used a bit of "artistic licence" on the radios as the colours of the originals were rather bland!

Back to the build - I have had a lot of trouble with the tracks and I resorted to using fuse wire to tie one track down onto a wheel whilst on the other side I used a piece of clear sprue to push the track down. For some reason the tracks were not evenly aligned which led to the different methods.

Anyway, I have done as much as I am going to do on this and it is completed:

Apart from the track issue I have loved this build and am looking forward to starting on the other one in my stash, to be completed as the Russian Front version.

Great build  is the 1.32 scale much bigger than the 1.35 Tamiya one or just the same? I also love to make the airfix 1.32 tanks but looking on the web :smt024: I can not buy one for less then £30  for a 70s kit.
