Just got my hands on a brand new Tamiya 1/12 Yamaha XV1000 motorcycle off eBay for £11 (part no. 14044).

There are paint call-outs for all parts except the main body panels, but in the painting instructions it states that the original Yamaha colour was "Romanesque Crimson" and also makes reference to Maroon but gives no Tamiya reference number. I have had a mooch around on 't'internet and found that Tamiya do indeed do a maroon paint but only in a spray (TS-11).

So my question, basically, is does anyone know of a better alternative to this? I know I could paint them red or blue or orange or pink but I like to keep as closely as possible to factory colours where possible.

Any help appreciated!!

Hi Peter,

Rather than a 'model' paint, why not ask in Halfords or an automotive shop. A quick search on the internet for 'Romanesque Crimson' shows that Amazon US sells this colour paint. Whether it's suitable (or cost effective) is another matter. Google may be your friend on this one.

Mark.

Thanks Mark - yes, Amazon US do indeed sell this paint in an aerosol can...................for almost $67!!!!!!

We have a automotive paint mixer guy near to us who is brilliant (all the local car body shops use him) he would do it and be cheaper, but I don't want to go anywhere near that expense to paint three 1/12 motorbike panels.

The kit is now in the stash anyway and may be several months (or years, decades or millennia) before this is dusted off and started. Might have to worry about this at a later date. :(

What colour are the body parts moulded in? A lot of Tamiya's automotive kits have the bodywork in a close approximation to the colour required, so that might give you an idea of the shade you're looking for.

I would call it 'dark cherry' and find that paint.

Jesper.

Hello Richard. The parts are moulded in black so no real help there either.
