It never ceases to amaze me or annoy me that Airfix do not provide a painting guide on the back of their boxes of figures.  They provide photos of the unpainted figures along with the quantity of each in the box! ... But we know that once we open the box!   :geek: If they wanted to show poses and quantities on the back, then a simple slip of paper inside with a painting guide would be helpful! Having said that, the detail on many of the Airfix sets is far superior to that of other makes!

I'm not sure if this is right at all, but if you click on the image to enlarge you may be able to work out some of the colours you need.  The numbers are Revell numbers though so you will have to convert numbers to the paints you have. ...

Off the top of my head, Chris FZZ, alaskafish or strider may be able to help and I'm sure there must be several others who have painted this set!

HTH a bit!

This uniform is standard for almost every campaign from tarawa forward;

The helmet can also be the same color as the uniform, the camo is a detachable cloth cover.

the cover is also available in the same shade of khaki as the leggings.

Before tarawa there was no issue of cammo, everything was solid olive drab green (the uniform main color).

At the start of the war they wore the 1918 helmet similar to the british helmet, this was phased out in may of 1942.

I never use colour charts..If you are using Acrylics, (which I recommend) mix your own. I only have a few colours which I use on a regular basis, Flesh,  red, yellow, blue, silver, gold, black, white, a middle brown, sand brown and anthracite.

Marine HBT utilites are a green grey so

Hu-31 Slate Grey = faded utilites
Hu-102 or Hu-86 = fresh utilities
Hu-66 OD is the best match for the dark OD used on helmets

Chris FFZ no Humbrol in the USA?  Maybe not in NY go across to NJ we have it here.  A shout out to Avenel Hobbies where I get mine.  :wink:
