Hi all

A warm good afternoon from Bloemfontein, South Africa. :heatwave:

I have a couple of Sherman M4A1's in my stash and would like to paint one of them in Israeli colours. Any one out there with some advice on what paint colours to use - I mainly use Humbrol Enamels. I know that some guys recommended Humbrol 74. The Sherman will be from an early period - c 1961.

Thank you so much.

Thysengel 8-)

Hi Thysengel and greetings from another rugby nation (NZ).

I am not an expert on Israeli AFVs but I am an IDF fan, so I like to get my Israeli models as accurate as possible. Humbrol 74 is Matt Linen which is too yellow for the AFVs. However 72 Khaki Drill is suitable for the Six-Day War, 84 Mid Stone suits the Lebanon War. Israel started painting its tanks with the 72 colour in about the mid 1960s, possibly I think starting some vehicles in the early 60s. Your Sherman in the early 60s would most likely still be olive drab, the shade depending on the origins i.e. either France(?) or the U.S. Many people have their own interpretations of which paint to use for olive drab, I usually use humbrol 163. For extra or better information have a look at the following website:

Slingshotter,
Yes we are from two great rugby nations. NZ has currently an awesome team and will be difficult to beat. Anyway, thanks so much for the info. It is extremely helpful. I am slowly but surely moving from German Panzers to IDF AFV's.
Cheers
