Hi guys,
I am currently finishing an 'Invaders' UFO kit, which is looking great in rattle can chrome. I've discovered from previous efforts however, that the chrome can smudge from finger marks, and doesn't really clean up. So on this build, I'm thinking of spraying a satin varnish layer.
Wanted your communal expertise, is it a good idea? Does varnish (in this case Gunze Sanyo or however you spell it) diminish the metallicness or anything?
Thanks,
Tom

You could try the process out on a test Piece first

When I "Klear" over silver gloss it does dull it down a bit, but I feel that's better than leaving the metallic finish unprotected.

I find it depends in the paint, some metallics are quite fragile, I'd go with the test it recommendation.

Walk down the nearest street and spot any 1:1 scale car with metallic paint. Then try to estimate how many coats of clear lacquer it has protecting that finish. I can tell you from applying the same it's a lot more than you might imagine. If using rattle cans I used to allow at least two and a half cans of lacquer to every can of body colour.
