Finally making a start on this - just two weeks to go!

Some sprue/decal shots.

Will be straight OOB. My third attempt at a warship - hopefully will be more successful then the previous two attempts!

Don't be frantic about time. There's no sell by date and time is still your friend two weeks after. Thanks for unboxing the kit. I can now retrace my steps back to the beginning, when the fun started. :boat: Such a great kit. I look forward seeing this cruiser coming together piece by piece. :blob:

Looking forward to seeing your build Nigel. As Bissyboat says, it's not the end of the world if you're not finished in time. The threads will just be moved to the Group Build Plus section of the Forum.

Ok, so construction has started. Hull halves went together easily. Had some fun with the propeller shafts. The support struts did not touch the hull so some encouragement was required with use of Tamiya tape to hold them down while the glue dried. Does mean that the starboard shaft is slightly bent though! I've primed the main deck and added the sidewalls of the superstructure though starting to think that might have been a mistake and I should have glued them to the first deck of the super structure. But not a fatal step.

Main and secondary guns and rangefinders prepared.

Then started on some of the superstructure parts.

Then I came across the next part....I suppose I could pass it off as battle damage (a shot from Prince of Wales or Hood during Battle of Denmark Strait?) but actually time to get the filler out! There is a smaller sink mark on the opposite side.

Looks to be off to a speedy start. It's a shame it needs the filler though

Yes. a very good start on your build. :thumb: At this rate you'll finish in time. But no rush of course. The rangefinders you refer to are the fire control for the secondary battery. The rangefinder sits on the forward and aft control centre. :geek: A minor problem covering those blemishes. Can't wait to see more progress on your Eugen. :yahoo:

Main deck and decks of upper superstructure have been painted. Also upper hull has been painted but needs a little more work before I tackle some masking and the lower hull.

Have gone over the main deck and painted (using my smallest brush!) the various pieces of deck furniture, chains etc.

Also painted the lower hull. Used Hu73 which went on beautifully.

More progress this week.

Masking removed from hull and I'm happy with outcome! Not going to try boot topping on this build but will have a go in the future!

Image

Main armament added and superstructure added to main deck. Also did some painting of small sprue parts like the plane and various guns.

Nice result with the hull masking Nigel, and the rest looks to be coming along nicely.

I agree and I truly love the matt finish with the white streaks on the lower hull. Everything is coming together nicely. Stick with it. You´re almost touching the finish-line. :thumb:

Bissyboat - I think the white marks you may see are the result of camera flash and how it shows on your monitor. In real life the lower is an overall dull red.

Lots of progress today. First painted the forward superstructure and added secondary armament.

Image

Then construction of the rear super structure. The main mast was somewhat fiddly and does not look totally straight when viewed from front on or from the rear! But sideways looks not too bad!

Image

All painted and AA guns, searchlights added.

Image

Now ready to be added to the hull. This will be done tomorrow. After that just the two lifeboats and their hoists to be added along with fore and aft flag masts and some decals. Nearly there!

Build complete! More photos are in the Gallery. A very enjoyable build and a good kit. My first warship completed in over 30 odd years and whilst not perfect I'm very happy with the outcome!

Aah. The pictures of the hull have played tricks on my eyes, but it has given me a very good idea. Sterling job on the Eugen by the way. I think you have done her great justice. :clapping:
