Just a quick little update...
There's going to be a short pause in these builds, as I'm testing out a new primer, which I will use on this build, and the Saladin, if it checks out OK...

cheers,
Robin.

Okay, a belated update...
Turns out, my experimental primer didn't work, and the paint wouldn't stay on the model. :fear:
So, it was a dunk in the oven cleaner, followed by re-priming with something that I know works, after a fashion. Then I became very busy, workwise, so was unable to start the repaint. However, now, I am temporarily OFF work, so I've finally had the time to start painting again. The first coat is on both models, and this time should stay put...

cheers,
Robin.

A quick pre-Christmas update. The Ambulance hull is painted, as is the Mk3 APC turret. The Mk3 APC hull needs one more coat, the wheel hubs for both are painted, so the tyres on these need painting, then it's detailing and decaling, hopefully not too long after Christmas...

cheers,
Robin.

Been some more progress with these, they're now ready for varnishing, decals and final assembly...

cheers,
Robin.

Both models now have a first coat of varnish, however, the Red Cross decals I was going to use for the Ambulance version won't fit, too big. Soo...I'm going to try making my own... :fear: :geek:
I've already drawn then up on the computer, and printed off a couple of test shots on plain paper. I've tried these on the model, and these do fit, so next step is to actually print some on decal paper...

cheers,
Robin.

Good luck with the decals  I tried it recently and found if you print 4 to 8 copies of each decal it takes the pressure off a bit!

Progress at last! The Mk.3 has it's decals on, so just needs varnishing, and the wheels putting on. I'm still working on the decals for the ambulance, got a few printing problems . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Okay . . . Only the Ambulance left to go, I've made the decals and applied them. I used the white decal paper from Crafty Computer Paper :-

https://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/d ... per-p11245

This paper works well. The backing paper releases *very* quickly, and the decal itself reacts very well to Microset and Microsol. Perhaps too well . . . looking at the decal on the rear of the model, which has a lot of relief moulded into it, you can see that while the decal has shrunk down well on to the detail, it has shrunk at the edges somewhat, and the surface with the colour on has cracked. On the sides of the model, where the the relief is less severe, the decals have settled down really well, likewise on the radiator grille. I think Microsol is too strong for this particular decal paper . . . I did think of replacing the large decal, but to be honest, I've spent enough time on this model, now . . . :juggle:

Thanks . . . regarding the 'decals' thing, that's a reference to the word. As a kid, I always called them 'transfers', then upon returning to the hobby, to find they'd been renamed 'decals' took a bit of getting used to . . .

cheers,
Robin.
