Thanks Brews.

I am rather pleased with how it is going up to now.  Last night I repainted the deck and I am now nearly ready for the fitting of the photo-etch.

Image

When looking at the pictures I have posted, it isn't obvious what size the HMS Manxman kit is.  So, I thought I'd take a picture of the build this morning alongside my HMS Belfast (for which I still haven't done the final rigging  ) and shows just how small the HMS Manxman kit (8 inches long, three-quarters of an inch wide) is in comparison.

A little more progress over the past two days, since Ratch started swinging the cat-of-nine-tails and threatening us with a keel-hauling.

The decks have been repainted and I have been tidying up afterwards with white paint. The pom-pom platform has been fixed to the forward section of the rear superstructure and the WEM photo-etch four-barrel pom-poms fitted to the platform. I have also fixed the aft section of the rear superstructure in place (I separated it from the rest so that the quarterdeck can be lifted to reveal the mine deck).

It's almost ready for the fitting of the rest of the photo-etch - I can't avoid it for much longer!

Before fitting the photo-etch, I did some work on the internal mine deck.  As you will recall, I made the quarterdeck removable to reveal the mine deck detail.

Image
The deck was made from plastic card and the rails for moving the mines were cut from scrap railings from a Heller 1/400 Scharnhorst.

Image
Here you can see the mine-deck in position (only dry-fitted at this time) inside the hull and the removable quarterdeck is in the background.

Image
A view from astern showing the rails protruding from the hull. These will be trimmed back when the mine deck is finally glued in place.  This will be done once a few more details have been added to the mine deck and it has been painted.

Unfortunately, I have been too wrapped up with my "Katy" build and other things to do any work of note on HMS Abdiel. Apart from adding a couple of small parts, I haven't made much progress at all. Hopefully, I will be able to get going again on Monday.

I got some PE work done last night and did a bit more on the internal mine deck. Still no sign of the turrets I ordered from WEM nine weeks ago so it looks like I'll have to make do with ones from HMS Belfast.

Progress is very slow but steady.  Tonight I spent some time adding the WEM photo-etch to the foremast and mainmast.  I also repainted the interior of the stern and painted some detail on the mine-deck.  I then installed the mine-deck.

Thanks a lot, Ratch. :D

The tracks were actually cut from spare railings left over from the Heller 1/400 Scharnhorst that I built for Airfix last November! I knew they would come in handy for something one day!

You ARE going to build some mines to put on the tracks, now, aren't you?

Well, I thought that I might make one! I'm certainly not going to fill up all the rails with them!

Manxman is now in storage for at least three weeks. I have had to put all my modelling gear away for safe-keeping. Unfortunately when I started to pack stuff away, I knocked my tray containing HMS Manxman and lots of loose photo-etch onto the floor! Luckily the ship was not damaged and I think I picked up all the PE! I won't know until I resume work on it next month!

Well, it has been about three and a half weeks since my last post. I am hoping to resume work on this build within the next two weeks! It's going to be a bit difficult getting back into the swing of normal modelling as it is. So, I will wait until my rehabilitation is complete first before attacking the photo-etch again!

It's never too late to finish a Group Build - Part Three!!

Another kit that went into "stalled mode". Four and a half years and not been touched! However, it has been dusted off:

Will be trying to finally get this finished in the next few weeks! (Yeah, right, Dave. Heard that one before.....)
