A Me 109E. (02048-8)
I knew I had one hiding somewhere. Dug it up last night and plan to start today if family and weather allows me some spare time.

Robert i suggest you read the :rules: i have stated that the group build does not start until the 1st June 2017 :bump: if you start your build before the due date then your group build will be null and void.

just finding out the canopy is not the one that should have been in the box.

I think its a Gustav canopy, not an Emil.

hi to all,

i need some advise.
i dont have a 109 E canopy. im quite convinced i have one in one of my spares boxes but having broken something in my leg and being rather not mobile i cant look for it. i dont have a already build 109E either. so i dont have an example that i can use as a mold
having never done something like that before: how can i build a 109E canopy myself?

any advise welcome

:D :D

You could buy one - I believe Falcon or Squadron do them

If it's any consolation the canopy is the worst part of this kit, being too small & is probably better replaced anyway.

thanks fireboot,

flickr was my first choice but i'm quite allergic to companies asking for my mobile phone number when registering.
I'll use my OneDrive for now, its 1 or more GB free and allows linking.
lets see how long that situation lasts.

:-)

update:
i will make a Me 109 E trop. fuselage and wings
Image

filling needed
Image

well known preparations:
i found part of the Humbrol RLM enamel range and ordered them. using H248 it will need several layers for a reasonable cover of the surface. maybe i will make a ground layer with primer to see if this gives a better result.
Image

only than i noticed the wings not being glued in the same angle. corrections needed.
Image

maybe still not the correct angle, but at least equal angles :-)
Image

since this build in my eyes doesnt go very smooth, i decided at this stage i could just as well try a few things i have never done before:
to use a primer (light grey), to try to get some depth by using some watered down black (this technique has a name, but i forgot). when painting my impression is the H248 is covering a little bit better with a primer than without.

to be continued

Almost done.

I'm not entirely happy with the paintwork of the 'cloth' covering (i.e. hiding the missing) canopy. its rather flat. At the same time, I ve spent enough time on this model. and i almost crushed my cloth canopy while painting the guns and correcting some paintwork. its time to finish working on this plane.

Decals are done, couldnt get myself to using a gloss finish on the Me109 before applying them. Using matt enamels only to cover them with a gloss layer makes me very uneasy. Maybe some other time. For now I'll just take the risc of silvering etc. Yes, you can call me a donkey :-).
