Very quick update today. Both kits now fully painted. Spitfire needs Klear but Mustang is ready for decals and I'll be starting those tomorrow. :)

Mustang teaser.  :D

All built and painted. I could call it a day at this point but I just want to tone down the gloss on the anti-glare and seal in the decals. I also had to use quite a lot of Micro Krystal Clear to fill in all the gaps around the windscreen and it's still looking a bit white around the frame. I'll post the gallery shots when the Spitfire is also done.
Talking of the Spitfire, first coat of Klear is on. I'm going to try and get a second on tonight and a third tomorrow so that I can start the decals on Friday.

Gorgeous build. Nicely done. Every bit as good as I'd hoped to see.

(If you still have the other, any chance of a pic of the 2 of them side by side?)

James

Terrific Mustang Roger, have this in the stash and seeing yours tells me I really have to dig it out.

David.

Spitfire update:

Image
All the decals are done and most of the build. As you can probably see the stencil decals have silvered quite badly. This, I have to say, is something I get every time I use the kit decals from the MkIX Spit :( . The after market Extradecal decals performed flawlessly. I had a bit of an issue with the resin main wheels also. The holes in them were too small for the stub axles. I know, I should have noticed this earlier in the build, but I didn't. My solution was to drill them out but I ended up ruining them so I've had to dig out the kit wheels and stick a coat of Tyre black on them. Next issue was the gun sight. I glued it in place but it obstructed the canopy so I'm currently working on a gun sight soution, i.e. leaving it out! All the other resin stuff went on with no proiblems.
Tomorrow then I need to sort out the silvering, get the wheels painted and fitted and do the final touch ups. I'm still hopeful of a Sunday finish!

And finally, just for James   :D :

Image
JAS snr and JAS jr, together as requested. Both from group builds. Although the Mustang is one of my all time top five aircraft, since returning to the hobby around ten years ago, these are the only two I've built to date. I'll have to put that right.

More Mustang pictures in the gallery. :D

Gorgeous Mustangs, and thanks for showing the pic

The Spitfire looks like it's going to come out very nicely too

The Spitfire has now had it's final varnish and just needs wheels and the canopy fitting. I'm very dissapointed with the silvered stencils, they realy have spoiled this build  . I don't know what it is about that kit but the decals realy are rubbish. I'll not be using them again. I'll have to order up some after market stencils for future use. Final build photos tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to seeing it Roger, shame about the stencils but it doesn't look that bad in the picture above, hopefully in the cold light of day it won't appear so bad to you either :thumb:

Cheers,

Stew

Well chaps, that's it then, another GB done and dusted! :D

Image
Spitfire done. I have to say I'm pleased overall and, as Stew suggested, the silvering does not look quite so bad in the light of day. I'm still dissapointed by it though. I tried all my tricks to get rid of it but ended up having to paint over the carrier fim. Not ideal. Anyhow, enough of that. It's been a fun build and I've enjoyed it very much. I was so tempted to include the P-40 but, even though it's now built and just needs painting, I'm back at work tomorrow and would just run out of time to finish the paint job. Never mind. See you all on the next GB! :D

More pictures in the gallery. :)

Regardless of the problems you had with the decals, they both look fantastic
