I have had my problem with the A.C.C. Website fixed, so I have today attached the listing of the new releases to the "Stop Press" section (www.airfixcollectorsclub.co.uk/).

It only list the releases as I shan't be getting the catalogue till the weekend.

Having got my Airfix Catalogue on Wednesday 11th, I have now completed my Constant Scale article on the 2017 Additions and Deletions. Constant Scale will now go to the printers.

The Article has been posted on the "Stop Press" page of the A.C.C. Website:
www.airfixcollectorsclub.co.uk/

It should provide interesting reading!!

I might pick up the Blenheim as it has a bomb bay and I am still childish enough to be amused by things like that but little else is appealing to me as I already have the subjects in my stash.

The Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c Scout 1:72 A02104

I wonder why they gave it a new number when it appears to be just A02101 with new decals

Exactly because it has new decals and hence a new instruction leaflet and box art!

uh, no, when Airfix do a different decal scheme they add the suffix A to the number - see above; the Messerschmitt 110C/D is the previous issue with new decals

The tails are different between the two kits. So different parts are used to make the kit.

But the two different tail fins are present on the frames of A02101 - so no extra parts have been added
In fact the kit has several optional parts included
Airfix have done this with the 1/48 Ju87B-1 as well. It has the parts for the B-1, B-2 and R versions on the frames but they're giving the B-2 issue a different number

Perhaps it's because both A02101 and A2104 are in the catalogue at the same time - usually a kit with a new suffix replaces the old one in the range.

The 1:48 Hurricane had the parts for the Sea and Tropical Hurricanes in the one kit (as do the BE2 and Ju87).

So if the alternative(s) is offered then a new number is required. We now have 3 Hurricane numbers for 3 different versions, although they all come from the one kit. As I wrote in my review in CS63, if only one Hurricane is currently available, one can make the other versions from that kit (provided you can get the right decals). So if Airfix has dropped 2 Hurricanes from its catalogue, the Hurricane is still there!

Next year, Airfix may decide to delete the Tropical Hurricane and re-introduce the Mk.1 with new decals, in which case it would be A05127A.

I've just received my review sample of the BE2C. Had I got it earlier, I would have noticed the extra part(s) which would have suggested a different version was to be released later, which is indeed the case.

Airfix does now plan its new releases so that several versions can be made from the one 'master' mould. If the differences are minor or minimal, then it makes sense to squeeze them all into the one mould - it makes running different versions a lot easier. If the differences are major (e.g. Shackleton), it makes sense to mould the extra parts separately so that sometimes the baseline kit can be cheaper.

The main difference between old and new Airfix is that once old Airfix moulded a kit (Beaufighter), that was it, generally. Now the kit is designed to be multi-varianted. Plus we get the new kits regularly 'refreshed' (new decals, etc).
