Couldn't resist this GB - so soon after starting up this hobby again along comes a starter kit GB.
So here's what I'll be doing
One other challenge - due to work commitments I'm doing a fair bit of travelling over the next month so I've decided to make use of those nights stuck in hotels to do something constructive.... Initial progress expected this week...

Well made a start this week.. Tuesday night spent in the Premier Inn at Huntingdon.
First the sprues:
So got all the "little" pieces painted (and added a touch of flesh to the pilot". So all ready to start the assembly :
By the end of the evening we'd got to this point :
Unfortunately you could drive the proverbial bus through the gaps at the wing roots, still sitting there for 10 minutes pushing as hard as could has considerably improved things (although by no means perfect).
Also apologies for the latest photos.... best I could do with the camera on the phone |

Hey mad_djg
That's a great start . Photo's are much better then many I've seen from camera phones. _________________ ''He changed the result by measuring it'' - Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth

Nicely done
Try to fill the gap in the wing root with a bit , not too much , of the glue that comes with the kit.It wont completely hide the join but a thickish coat of paint soon fills it up a bit more.
I tried this with some success on my F5E build.

Ayup Andy...
Before you melt through the wing with glue on its own, how about carving up some sprue into 'Flakes' and filling the gap with them AND glue? a little more controllable?
I did that as a ten year old... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Another week..... another hotel...
Not having looked at the model for a week - the wings aren't as bad as I made out - not perfect - but acceptable (well to my standards anyway )
So this is the state of play after 2 coats of paint :
Unfortunately whilst in the box, in the suitcase, one of the propeller blades has broken off Still not a major issue - just an annoyance. However, I have decided to only add the final parts at home when all else is complete.
More frustrating is the blue of the tail plane. I've given the paint a good shake and a good stir but it just (to me) looks wrong - for me, totally out of keeping with the intensity of the other colours. Certainly not the bright and bold I was expecting. It is HU89, which looking at the Airfix site seems to give a reasonable match to the colour on the plane, but it really doesn't seem to match the blue on the box. Any suggestions for a "better" blue?

Hu25 could be a better match, although whether using it falls within the rules would be a question for the man in charge. _________________ Bubbly! |

Thanks for the suggestion Hewman, however as that would mean spending some money it wouldn't really meet the spirit of the GB.
So... anyway finally finished....
Struggled a bit getting some of the decals straight..... but not too bad...
Having completed this, I have the urge to make another one - just to see how much of an improvement I can make with using more than just the starter kit. |
