You've only got it in two dimensions.

There is at least one public one on the Enterprise-D. If you go out of the door on the bridge that leads to the observation lounge and turn left it's there. Marked clearly on the official blueprints.

Ayup All...

I wonder if 'Mrs Mop' wears those stretchy Uniforms when she goes for her 'Mop and Bucket' ! And Is there some scaggy corner cupboard where all the brushes are kept as is right and proper, the one that smells of Wee !

And also, does Physics Intervene if you're on the head when the Enterprise goes to Warp?

I also hope that most if not all of the crew are Humanoid in shape and appendage for the sake of the cubicles !

Well if the transporters can disassemble and then reassemble a human atom by atom, then converting a pile of Richard the Thirds into a slap up meal shouldn't present much of a problem.

In the early days of the technology, they probably experimented by taking a pile of cack and trying to turn it into a Little Chef Early Starter breakfast.

It's like converting kits - start with something easy.

Let's look at it this way. We have the cow munching grass and leaving "deposits" on the ground which in turn are utilized by the grass as nourishment so that the grass grows and is in turn eaten by the cow. Now all we have to do is eat the cow (or the milk) to intrude on this--nature's own recycling-- and enter into the recycling "chain" whether we like the idea or not.

It's a small step from there to a more efficient system suitable for space travel zillions of light-years from the nearest grocery store.

But the natural cycles are more complex- interacting with the soil and its own ecosystem; then there are the nitrogen cycles and photosynthesis.

The Enterprise couldn't process sufficient minerals and nutrients from waste alone, as these are absorbed by the digestive system.

Something else would need to be added into the mix. Sludge from the oil sump or its 25th century equivalent

Ditto the cack. It isn't just reprocessed to extract every possible nutrient. It's actually broken down into into its constituent atoms - presumably mainly carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and in my case a fair bit of sulphur - that are recombined into different molecules.

The nutrients would therefore be recreated every time.

This is probably why transporters are (apparently) the least plausible bit of treknology. Engines that warp space, particle weapons, etc all have some basis in theoretical physics.

The idea of splitting people into their constituent atoms and teleporting them elsewhere doesn't work on any level. For one thing, why wouldn't you die? The version of yourself that appeared elsewhere wouldn't be you, it would be a new being with your memory, but you'd be dead.

Also, why not use them as a weapon? Why not dematerialise bits of the enemy ship's hull, to let all the the air out, then rematerialise them again so you can take possession?
