Just to show the immense amount of trivia that can beb kept on a computer :

To prevent anyone using the Vulcan bomber mock-up for future filming, the production team blew up the plane with dynamite. The frame work left behind has since become a reef.

Two early Avro Vulcan B1As from the Waddington Wing were used in the filming. In the ground sequences XA913 was used and for in flight use, XH506. Both aircraft were withdrawn from service by 1968 and scrapped the same year.

I think Brize Norton in the summer and Lyneham in the winter.
She needs a bit of runway...
But dont quote me on that.

AFAIK it was kept at Brunty pre restoration to flight of XH558 and then brought out to promote XH558,thus doing the curcuit to raise funds for the project at airshows etc.
I have no idea who owns or where the model is kept now.
But a jolly good model all the same..

I'd have thought if they had such serious cash offers on the table it would be a liquid asset by now! Let's hope so as the last word on the XH558 website was that the project is some £40,000 short going into the new year and if they could get £37,000 for the model... It was definitely still being used by the VTTS crew last year as it was at Leicester Square for the pledgeathon.

Fingers crossed we get a third season of XH558 flying this year.

That is a lot of money to be short of budget this early on. I am naturally suspicious by nature, and just like certain charities I find the figures unbelievable.
The Iceland bank crash was a bit of an eye opener, with that cat charity having several millions invested, it does tend to beg the question of what these charities actually  do spend 'our' money on at times.

Same story for the last three years

Vulcan will not fly: no money left

One day they will cry wolf once too often

Funny, I thought the story was that a small, dedicated team has worked miracles in the absence of a major sponsor, proved time and again the appeal this iconic aircraft has, proved the naysayers wrong at every stage and made the dream of millions who wanted to see it flying again come true.

I find suspicion about where the money is going a bit hard to understand - I suspect that like Formula 1, the best way to make a small fortune out of running a Vulcan is to start with a large one. Never going to make anyone rich.

The money for XH558 ( go to the vulcantothesky.org website ) is used for lots of things including maintenance (many items (e.g. ejector seats, have to be removed and sent for servicing to Martin-Baker) purchasing of spare parts as and when they become available, salaries for the permanent staff of engineers that are essential for continuous maintenance, fuel, airworthy certification etc.....
While XH558 has been in a hangar for it's winter service at RAF Lyneham it has been possible to attend 'Hangar Tours', up close and very personal with XH558, a great experience.
If you want to follow progress go to the link above, if you want to help keep it flying you can donate directly, purchase merchandise, join the Vulcan to the Sky Club.

To return to the original question, the scale model used for the ditching scenes actually represented a B2 rather than the B1 that was in the takeoff scenes, so it wouldn't be stretching a point if you wanted to model the 'Thunderball' aircraft using the Airfix kit.

I'm not sure which variant the undersea mock-up represented. If it's not clear from the film, we may never know.
